The payout calculation is divided into two steps.

Calculating the eligible competitors and pot

flmflm determines the eligible competitors base on their offer and if the offer meets or exceeds the eligible ante. The eligible ante is determined such that it maximizes the pot. Here is a simple example to illustrate.

Competitor initial ante offer maximum pot if included finalized ante eligible
Bob 5 5 15 10 no
Alice 5 10 20 10 yes
Eve 5 15 15 10 yes

In this example the pot is maximized at 20 when the eligible ante is set to Alice’s offer of 10 points. If it were lowered to Bob’s offer, the pot would be lower because 3 eligible competitors times 5 = 15. If it were raised to Eve’s offer, the pot would also be lower because only 1 eligible competitor would contribute 15 points. Therefore the final competitors who go to the vote includes just Alice and Eve. The pot is 20 points.

Note, an exception to the above is if a challenge only includes 2 competitors. Then both are automatically eligible and the pot is set to the lower offer.

Calculating the payout

flmflm calculations for payouts varies depending on the number of eligible competitors.

1st place 2nd place 3rd place challenge creator
2-4 competitors 95% of pot none none 5% of pot
5 - 9 competitors only 65% 25% none 5%
10 - 19 competitors 60% 25% none 5%
20 or more competiros 57.5% 22.5% 10% 7.5%

Note that flmflm does not allow fractional points. To prevent a fractional payout flmflm employs the following procedure:

If any award turn out to be a non integer then they are rounded down to the nearest whole number. Them the remaining points are added together to form a whole number which is distributed in descending order from 1st place to challenge creator.

Below is an example

1st place 2nd place 3rd place challenge creator total points remaining points to distribute
fractional payout 126 * 0.575 = 72.45 126 * 0.225 = 28.35 126 * 0.1 = 12.6 126 * 0.075 = 9.45 126 0
payout rounded down 72 28 12 9 121 5
redistributed payout 74 29 13 10 126 0
